Black Infant Mortality
The statewide black infant mortality rate of 9.5 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2012, is still agonizingly high, but for the first time below double digits. California's black infants continue to die more than twice as frequently as white children, whose infant mortality rate stands at 4.1 deaths per 1,000 live births. And in a global context, California's improved African American death rate is roughly the same as that in a host of other developing nations.
The Great Crenshaw Wall
The Great Crenshaw Wall has been the site of many murals by South Central artists since the 1960's. Most of these murals celebrated Black history, Black music, Black politics, or some sort of form of Black culture.
Continuing this tradition in 2002 a local graffiti crew called Rocking The Nation turned the Great Crenshaw Wall into a 787 feet long, 10 feet high, 7,880 square foot Black History timeline. The mural was entitled- Our Mighty Contribution.
Welcome- A treasured West Coast landmark, the Crenshaw Wall has been a target of artists and muralists in Los Angeles since the 1960's.
mission of the Crenshaw Wall Restoration Project is to restore the current mural and use a special coating technique to protect it against the elements and vandalism.
We also will dedicate the wall as a historical landmark, petition for a square dedication, and attach a plaque describing the mural and giving credit to it's creators.
We are developing an App which will take visitors on a virtual interactive tour of the mural.
We are currently in pre-production and slated for execution as soon as the fund raising process is complete.
Please explore our site by selecting the tabs, enjoying our gallaries, and watching the videos. By double clicking the images in the slideshow on this page and visiting the links, you will experience the wall as an educational tool.
